For too long, companies have held the belief that if they provide a collaboration site, people will use it. People have had the ability to collaborate via team portals for some time, but it has not been until recently, with the advent of Microsoft's SharePoint solution, that companies have really seen an explosion on collaboration.
Part of the problem is related to the user's inability to find what they need within their own organizations leading them to create their own collaboration sites where they gather the information they use and invite their teammates and peers to share with them. This form of Social Networking has proven to be quite successful with examples such as LinkedIn and Facebook which allow users to share information with their peers quickly and easily.
While this form of collaboration is easily introduced within the organization, it can quickly grow out of control and add to the existing chaotic information puzzle that plagues most organizations. Careful planning and a well thought out information architecture can allow companies to not only take advantage of these peer collaboration networks, but also allow for a more effective network of networks where peer groups not only share amongst themselves, but also with other peer networks.
Kestral Group's holistic approach to information architecture facilitates the collaboration process while driving improvements in information quality and accessibility. Let us help you with your collaboration strategy. |
